At the MANI 2026 Continental Consultation in Abidjan, leadership of the Movement for African National Initiatives passed from Rev. Dr. Reuben Ezemadu to Rev. Peter Oyugi, who now serves as Continental Coordinator.
Rev. Dr. Ezemadu served sacrificially as Continental Coordinator for twenty years, from the early days of the movement through four in-person consultations and one virtual one. The Abidjan Declaration records the handover as “a theological statement about the maturation of a Pan-African mission movement”, one moving from mission field to a dominant global mission-sending force.
Continuity, not a new organisation
The first of the six strategic priorities adopted at Abidjan reaffirms that MANI is a movement, not an organisation, and that the transition signals “maturity and continuity”. Delegates and the National, Regional and Network Coordinators were called to renew their commitment and to carry the momentum of Abidjan into the mission culture of local churches in every nation.
What stays the same
- The vision: the completion of the Great Commission mandate in Africa and the rest of the world.
- The method: catalysing national initiatives, regional and network coordination, and partnership across the whole Body of Christ.
- The focus: reaching the unreached and least-evangelised first in their own countries and then in the rest of the world.
