Member Care Network

Caring for missionaries so they stay, thrive and finish well.

The Member Care Network works so that member care becomes an integral part of every sending church and organisation — so missionaries sent within and from Africa are cared for holistically.

The challenge

Missionary attrition — good people leaving the field — is one of the greatest challenges facing Africa’s growing missionary movement. At MANI 2026, Rev. Peter Oyugi called on the movement to re-examine member care models “so that missionaries stay and thrive”, and to share successful bi-vocational models across regions.

What the network does

  • Develops member care networks in each region of Africa.
  • Equips senders with workshops on pre-field, on-field and re-entry care, and retreats for missionaries.
  • Links MANI to global member care through the Global Member Care Network, part of the WEA Missions Commission.
  • Publishes the Africa Member Care Network email newsletter every two months.

The network’s coordinator is co-author of Member Care for Missionaries: A Practical Guide for Senders.
