Transformational Discipleship

African Congresses on Discipleship — forming disciples who make disciples.

1st African Congress on Discipleship — Nairobi, 1–5 May 2017

Held at the Dimesse Sisters Retreat Centre in Karen, Nairobi, as adopted at the 2016 Addis Ababa consultation. Theme: Initiating a Transformational Discipleship Revolution in the Churches of Africa and the World. It drew 95 delegates from 11 countries; the keynote was given by Dr. U. Obed. Models presented included the Purpose-Driven Movement, Alpha Course, Disciple-Making Movement, Scripture Union, home-based spiritual nurture, the African Strategic Discipleship Movement and the Acts 2:42 Initiative.

2nd African Congress on Discipleship — Redemption Camp, Nigeria, 6–10 May 2019

Theme: Life-Transforming Discipleship and the Next Generation. 82 delegates from nine countries. The congress concluded that the Church in Africa risks losing the next generation unless it disciples it intentionally — and that methods used by the past generation will not be effective for the next.
