Nearly half of the countries of Southern Africa are engaged in some expression of a national initiative.

National initiatives

  • Zimbabwe — Target 2000: launched in the early 1990s with 60 denominations committed to plant 10,000 congregations in un-churched areas.
  • Eswatini (Swaziland): leaders from 13 denominations attended the Target 2000 congress in 1992 and returned to help launch the Swaziland Evangelism Task.
  • Namibia: Transformation Namibia, networking church, business and government leaders.
  • South Africa: the World Evangelization Network of South Africa (WENSA).
  • Malawi, Zambia, Lesotho, Botswana: the Malawi National Initiative for Missions and Evangelism, the Copperbelt Survey pilot in Zambia, and growing interest in Lesotho and Botswana.
