African Women in Missions Network

Mobilising women as full partners in completing the Great Commission.

The African Women in Missions Network (AWIMN) is a strategic network of MANI. Its vision and mission derive from the vision and mission of MANI.

Mission

The Great Commission is a command given to women and men. AWIMN is focused on mobilising women in recognition of the strategic role they play in the fulfilment of the Great Commission and in finishing the task of reaching the remaining least-reached peoples of the world. It stands on the shoulders of earlier global efforts such as Women of Global Action (the AD 2000 women’s track).

How AWIMN began

  • 2006: AWIMN is envisioned at the first MANI consultation in Nairobi.
  • 2011: A few women meet at MANI 2011 in Abuja.
  • March 2012: Women leaders at the MANI Leaders’ meeting in Nairobi agree to call a planning meeting.
  • 28–30 April 2013: Twenty women leaders with continental, regional or national ministries meet in Karen, Kenya, hosted by Rev. Dr. Judy Mbugua; Rev. Esme Bowers chairs, assisted by Pastor Nosa Tukura.

The meeting’s goals were to envision women in Africa for missions, to discuss the issues that inhibit women’s participation, and to draw up an action plan together.
