Francophone West Africa

The doorstep of the Sahel — and host of MANI 2026.

Francophone West Africa hosted the MANI 2026 consultation in Abidjan — the first ever in Francophone Africa. The region’s churches stand on the doorstep of the Sahel, one of the most concentrated mission frontiers on earth.

A divine assignment

The Abidjan Declaration calls on the Francophone church to “step fully into its strategic position”, supported by the whole African and global mission community. Francophone believers carry a linguistic and cultural proximity to Sahelian peoples — the Kanuri, Soninke and Fulani among them — that no other part of the global church possesses.

Priorities

  • A coordinated Francophone missionary movement in the Sahel — “not as a new organisation, but a new dynamic of collaboration”.
  • Evangelism through sport, medical missions, audio Bibles in local languages, and digital and radio platforms.
  • Structural correction of the Anglophone default in pan-African gatherings, so Francophone voices shape strategy.
